Chamonix Ski Lesson FAQs

  • Level 1  Never skied before. 

    Level 2  I have skied on a plastic or indoor slope a few times or am a nervous 1-week skier; I am happy in my snow snowplough

    Level 3  I can link snowplough turns on greens and easy blue runs and sometimes my skis are parallel at the end of the turn.

    Level 4  I am capable of skiing parallel on most blue runs but get it comes a bit unstuck on steeper, narrower or icy slopes.

    Level 5  I can ski on red runs with skis parallel most of the time. I like skiing reasonable fast but still struggle if it gets bumpy, steep or icy. I have tried off-piste but find it hard going

    Level 6  I am confident on reds and most blacks but my technique gets less consistent on the harder blacks and off piste.

    Level 7  I am confident on most terrain but want to perfect my technique and broaden skills on more difficult terrain, steeps, bumps, performance carving.

  • What's the difference?

    Off-piste means skiing in resort but away from the pistes and marked trails.

    Backcountry skiing takes place outside the ski area no matter how you get there.

    Ski touring involves using climbing skins and touring equipment to travel uphill under your own power before skiing back down. It is often done away from the resort, although lifts can sometimes be used to access the start of a tour.

    We specialise in these disciplines and can help experienced skiers develop their off-piste technique and explore more challenging terrain in Chamonix.

    • For morning lessons, we will meet you at your accommodation or at the bottom of the agreed ski lift.

    • If we collect you from your accommodation, we can transport a maximum of 4 clients.

    • For lessons starting later in the day, we will normally meet you on the mountain.

    • Your exact meeting point will be confirmed the day before your lesson.

    PLEASE NOTE: The ski area for your lesson will depend on our schedule, snow conditions and where other lessons are taking place that day. If you need to ski in a specific area, please let us know when booking and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

  • Your holiday accommodation should provide you with a Carte d'Hôte (guest card), which gives you free access to the train within the Chamonix valley. Your ski pass gives you access to the ski bus.

    For morning lessons (our first lesson of the day), we may be able to collect you from your accommodation if you are staying within the Chamonix valley. Let us know where you are staying when you book and we can confirm whether collection is possible.
